About Indian Council of Agricultural Research
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research was established on 16 July 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in execution of the outline of the Royal Commission on Agriculture. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research is an independent unit under the Division of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Government of India. The ICAR was initially known as the Imperial Council of Agriculture and Research and has its headquarters in New Delhi, the capital of India.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research is the peak unit for synchronizing, managing and directing analysis and edification in agriculture covering horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in whole of the country. The ICAR is one of the largest national agricultural research units of the country, having more than hundred agricultural institutes and seventy plus universities spread across the nation.
The vision and mission of the Council of Agricultural Research is to tackle the challenges and manipulate the opportunities by gearing the strength of science and endeavoring border less partnership with certain stakeholders in food disburse chain at both the national and the international levels. To attain the vision and mission, the ICAR is providing excessive preference to the farmers with the complete policy on the grounds of ‘farmer first’.
The ICAR has played an important part in encouraging success in higher knowledge in agriculture. It is captivated in pealing the edges of science and evolution of the technology and its scientists are globally appreciated in the fields.
